Barrett's Esophagus

Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which the lining at the bottom of the esophagus changes to resemble intestinal cells. In some patients, the nucleus of these cells can develop precancerous changes or dysplasia which is then a risk factor for esophagus cancer. This condition can develop in patients with chronic GERD. This diagnosis is made via endoscopy with biopsy.
